Spano Fan

I wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed the Her World column by Susan Spano. I’ve never considered myself a raging feminist, but I have traveled to seven continents, often alone, so I appreciate the female viewpoint. I had a special laugh over the Dec. 6 column (“For Intrepid Explorers Past and Present, a Woman’s Place Is Far From Home”), in which a woman who had been to the Antarctic was asked: “Does your husband let you do this?” I’ve been to the Antarctic three times.

One of my treasures is an entry in my ninth-grade yearbook that reads: “. . . and keep reading those explorer books. Maybe someday you’ll be the wife of one.”
