Firm’s Service Hasn’t Been a Gateway to Net

Share

Some subscribers to Gateway’s Internet service, gateway.net, have been unable to log on since the computer seller, with headquarters in San Diego and three other cities, decided to switch its customers from Web America Networks to UUNet.

Last month, Gateway sued Dallas-based Web America Networks for “failure to meet the needs and expectations of Gateway and its customers.” The company declined to comment on the suit.

Since then, new subscribers to gateway.net have been signed up directly with UUNet, a unit of Jackson, Miss.-based MCI WorldCom. A Gateway spokesman couldn’t say how long it would take to get all of its 200,000 customers on the UUNet network.
