HUNTINGTON BEACH
The City Council has introduced a wording change to an ordinance that deals with picketing private residences. Currently, the ordinance states that it is unlawful for any person to picket before or about a residence. Police Chief Ronald E. Lowenberg said the wording is too vague and difficult to enforce. He suggested clarifying the ordinance by requiring individuals to remain 300 feet from the targeted residence.
City Atty. Gail Hutton agreed: “Under current grounds, a person can exercise their rights right up to your front door. This allows for them to express themselves lawfully.” The ordinance is set to be adopted Tuesday.
