John Fuller Named to Replace Carona as County Marshal

Share

John E. Fuller has been appointed county marshal, a position that had been vacant since former Marshal Mike Carona became Orange County sheriff in January.

Fuller, a captain and a 22-year veteran of the marshal’s office, bested 27 other candidates in the six-month selection process, Orange County Superior Court officials said in announcing the appointment Wednesday.

The marshal’s office is responsible for security in the county’s courthouses. It also serves bench and arrest warrants, among other duties.

Fuller, 49, has been in charge of regional operations for the department since 1996, overseeing the justice centers in Newport Beach, Fullerton, Laguna Niguel and Westminster.

He and Capt. Paul Gushard, another in-house candidate, had been alternating as acting marshal since Carona’s departure.
