Irvine-based Platinum Software Corp. and Illinois-based Platinum Technology International Inc. said Thursday that they have settled a lawsuit over the trademark and corporate use of the name “Platinum.” Financial terms were not disclosed.

As part of the settlement, Platinum Technology will get all rights to the Platinum trademark, but grant Platinum Software use of the name for a year. Platinum Software, which has broadened and changed its focus in the past year through some key acquisitions, said it had wanted to change its name to reflect its future direction.

Platinum Software also has been granted a license to use the Platinum name while marketing and selling certain products, officials said. In addition, the two companies will work together on a reseller agreement, where Platinum Software will distribute Platinum Technology products.
