Vons supermarkets announced it will send six truckloads of food and baby supplies from Los Angeles to the Central Valley to assist more than 14,000 farm workers left jobless by December’s citrus freeze. The first truck will head north today, said Lupe Martinez of United Farm Workers, which is coordinating the relief effort.
