2 Mob Bosses Get Life in ’92 Killing of Judge

Two top Mafia bosses were among 17 suspected mobsters convicted of plotting the 1992 car bombing in Palermo that killed a leading judge-prosecutor and five police escorts. Life sentences were given in Caltanissetta, Sicily, to seven of the defendants, including Salvatore “Toto” Riina and Pietro Aglieri, considered by investigators to have been top Mafia leaders until their arrests. Ten other defendants received lesser sentences, while eight men were acquitted.
