2 Homeowners Groups to Hold Candidates Forum

Share

Four candidates for two seats on the City Council will participate in a forum Thursday, fielding questions submitted beforehand by residents.

The candidates are incumbent Dennis Washburn; Janice Lee, a businesswoman who has worked as an environmental consultant to the city; Daniel Glaser, an attorney who chairs the Calabasas Parks and Recreation Commission, and Helene Regen, a retired fashion designer who serves on the city’s Tree Board.

A key issue in the March 2 election is expected to be the future growth of this semirural city, incorporated in 1991 to wrest development decisions from the hands of county supervisors.

“We’re all pretty much in the same position,” Glaser said. “We want to make sure that development doesn’t overrun the city. We all moved here because of the pretty views and the rustic way of life.”

The event, sponsored by the Las Virgenes Homeowners Federation and the Calabasas Park Homeowners Assn., will be televised on the city’s local cable access channel. The homeowners groups are gathering from residents questions that will be chosen at random by candidates during the forum, said Sharon Nessim, president of the Calabasas Park group.

The forum begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, 4232 Las Virgenes Road. It will be followed by a reception at which residents can meet the candidates.
