ORANGE COUNTY EARNINGS

Core Inc.: The provider of employee management services reported fourth quarter net income of $738,213, or 9 cents a share, which included nonrecurring charges of $55,658. For the fourth quarter of 1997, the company earned $819,906, or 10 cents a share. Revenue increased 21% to $13.2 million from $10.9 million.

For the year, Core posted a net loss of $3.8 million, or 50 cents a share, which included nonrecurring charges of $5.6 million. As part of the charges, the company wrote off $2.4 million related to closing Cost Review Service and $736,000 to settle an arbitration between Core and the founders of Cost Review. Another $2.1 million of the charges stemmed from Core’s purchase of Social Security Disability Consultants. In 1997, Core earned $2.8 million, or 35 cents a share. Revenue rose 18% to $45.6 million from $38.5 million.
