Orange Coast Doubles Team Is Key to Beating Fullerton

Margo Verlagen and Shannon Gibson’s 6-2, 6-2 victory over Fullerton’s Kim Chaput and Merrill Baker in No. 2 doubles proved to be the decisive match as Orange Coast defeated Fullerton, 5-4, in Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis.

OCC’s Camella Jaeger won in No. 1 singles, beating Sarah Barnum, 6-3, 6-2. Orange Coast improved to 2-1, 1-0. Fullerton is 2-2, 0-1.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 7, Golden West 2--John Cappello started Saddleback’s romp, winning at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5. Saddleback is 4-1.

In nonconference baseball:

Long Beach City 18, Santa Ana 10--It was a close game until the seventh when Long Beach scored six runs. Catcher Carlos Cisneros was a key player for Long Beach, going two for five with two doubles and scoring three runs. Joe Urban had three RBIs, a double and a home run for Santa Ana (6-3).

Moorpark 11, Fullerton 9--Fullerton scored three runs in the first, but fell behind 8-3 after four innings. David Fischer had three RBIs and two doubles for Fullerton (6-3).
