Lefties Would Rather Fight Than Switch

Share

Leftie Jeff Goldsmith proclaims, “1999 will be the year of the left-hander.” Speaking from Farmington, Mich., where he runs Left Hand Publishing, he says it is time to create public awareness and to address the frustrations of lefties in a right-handed world. Being left-handed is not the problem, he says. “The problem is being allowed to be.” That means not being forced to switch and also having access to everything from leftie can openers to leftie cameras.

Goldsmith, 43, is organizing a Lefthanders Day Celebration the weekend of Aug. 13 in Michigan to celebrate International Lefthanders Day.

An estimated 12% to 15% of Americans are lefties, including President Clinton, Al Gore, Jay Leno, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Seinfeld and Oprah Winfrey.

Goldsmith still remembers as a kid not being allowed to play shortstop in Little League. But he’s proud of being left-handed. “It’s my mission to make people think it’s something special.”
