AOL Hires Netscape Co-Founder

America Online Inc., the world’s largest online service, said Netscape Communications Corp. co-founder Marc Andreessen will become its chief technology officer after the completion of AOL’s $6.7-billion acquisition of Netscape. Andreessen, 27, who will report to AOL Chairman and Chief Executive Steve Case, will help define the company’s technology strategy. Andreessen has been chief technology officer for Netscape. “With Marc Andreessen as America Online’s first chief technology officer, we are taking a major step to ensure all of our interactive brands will benefit from the latest technological developments today and in the years to come,” Case said.
