Dozens of well-wishers paid tribute Tuesday to Councilwoman Eva Miner Bradford, who is resigning after 10 years on the council to become a Mormom missionary in Arizona. Officials ranging from Congress to the state Assembly to the local school board presented Bradford with certificates of appreciation.

Bradford, 73, thanked her supporters. “I appreciate all of you for your friendship and understanding,” she said.

Bradford, who was elected in 1988, is the most senior member of the council and served two terms as mayor, becoming the first woman in 40 years to hold that office. She and husband Stewart are planning to move to the mission home in Tempe about a month after her official resignation date of Feb. 28. After the two-year mission, they plan to move to Provo, Utah.
