Re “Hoffman vs. Hoffman” (Feb. 14):

Eric Harrison spent four hours of conversation with Dustin Hoffman, this hugely successful, wealthy and incredibly self-absorbed actor, as he ponders how his swift movie success may have taken him too far, too fast from the things that led him into acting in the first place? Good grief!

After four pages of Hoffman’s angst, ennui, navel gazing and bafflegab, he finally says, “the truth of the matter is I really feel lucky and I’m happy that I’ve had this extraordinarily rare opportunity to work,” etc. The Times could have cut this article to that one last paragraph.
