TUESDAY--Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan delivers his semiannual report on the state of the U.S. economy to the Senate Banking Committee. A bonanza of good economic news should lift the tone of his address, but Greenspan also may warn that dangers lurk for a booming economy that has defied all expectations of a slowdown.

* The Conference Board is expected to report that the strong economy is encouraging consumers. The New York-based business research group’s index of consumer confidence is forecast to rise to 128.8 in February from 127.6 in January.

WEDNESAY--Frustrated with consumer complaints and with filing costly lawsuits against organizers of mail-in sweepstakes, attorneys general from nine states and representatives from 16 others meet in Indianapolis beginning today to discuss ways to halt deceptive gimmicks. They say they hope further agreements with the industry and new laws will help.

THURSDAY--A mixed bag of statistics on labor markets, real estate and manufacturing is expected in several reports.
