PRI Wins 2 More Governorships

Election results showed Mexico’s ruling party retaining two state governorships--in Quintana Roo and Hidalgo--indicating renewed strength ahead of next year’s presidential race. The Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, in power since 1929, has now won 10 of 14 governor’s races over the past year even though it lost control of Mexico’s lower house in 1997.
