THIS WEEK
Men’s basketball: Not only was Irvine beaten by Pacific Saturday for its 13th consecutive loss, the Anteaters had a difficult time getting to Stockton. They missed their flight Friday because of a travel snafu. “I think somebody put a hex on us,” guard Malachi Edmond said. “But we have to stay positive or we’ll lose our minds.” UCI hosts UC Santa Barbara Thursday and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Saturday. Both games are at 7 p.m.
Women’s basketball: The Anteaters have beaten only Cal State Fullerton and San Luis Obispo--the two teams below them--since Jan 17. The Anteaters play at UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. Thursday and at SLO at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Track and Field: Sophomore Anita Sampson had not competed in three years, but she didn’t seem rusty, leaping 18 feet to win the long jump in the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet last week. It was her second consecutive long jump victory. Irvine competes in the Claremont College relays beginning at 12:15 p.m. Saturday.
Swimming and Diving: The Anteaters compete in the Big West championships Thursday through Saturday at Belmont Plaza.
