GDP Revision: The Commerce Department is expected to report today that the U.S. economy grew by as much as 6% in the fourth quarter of 1998, while inflation registered one of the smallest annual gains since the end of World War II. The statistics will be issued in the government’s revision of the gross domestic product. Its initial estimate showed the economy expanded at a 5.6% annual rate in the last three months of the year.

Brazil Meeting: Governors of Brazil’s 26 states meet today for talks with President Fernando Henrique Cardoso. The International Monetary Fund has set new fiscal targets for Brazil, and Cardoso needs the governors to tackle their state finances to help meet those goals.
