Tustin Unified continues to be one of the safest districts in the state, according to the third annual California Safe Schools Assessment report released by the state Department of Education.
“We have always made safe schools a priority in Tustin, and this new report shows that we are providing a safe learning environment,” Supt. George Mannon said.
Tustin is at or below the average of all Orange County districts in most crime areas; however, in drug and alcohol offenses and robbery/extortion--which accounts for two incidents--the district ranks higher than the county average.
But Tustin is below the state average in all categories, which also include battery, assault, sexual misconduct and property crime.
“In the area of property crimes, such as after-school vandalism, there has been a 30% drop over the past three years in property loss in dollars per student in Tustin Unified,” said Joe de Camp, director of student services. “That is why we must continue a strong security program for our schools.”
