Jewish-Latino Passover Seder

More than 200 Latinos and Jews are expected to participate in a Jewish-Latino Passover Seder at 7 p.m. on March 25 in Orange.

The interfaith event will be held at the Catholic Church’s Diocese of Orange headquarters, Marywood Center.

The Anti-Defamation League, which sponsors the event, began reaching out to Latinos three years ago and holds round-table meetings for Jews and Latinos every three months to build stronger bonds and trust, said Joyce Greenspan, regional director of the ADL. Admission to the two-hour Passover Seder, at $5, will include ceremonial food, dessert and coffee.

Celebration of traditions of the season and the liberation from oppression, reaffirmation of the two communities’ similarities, will be featured, Greenspan said.

The Hagaddah--a liturgical text traditionally read at Passover--will be presented in English, Hebrew and Spanish, Greenspan said.

“This celebration of tradition reaffirms the spiritual ties that bind our two communities and reasserts our shared commitment to opposing bigotry in all forms,” Greenspan said.
