6 Die in Home Fire; Faulty Heater Cited

Fire, apparently sparked by a defective heater in an attached garage, engulfed a two-story wooden house in Ceylon, Minn., killing six people, authorities said. Killed were Kathleen Hatfield, 60, her son, Alfred Hatfield, 40, and his three children, ages 8, 7 and 3. The sixth victim was Jenny Hoffmeyer, 22, a family friend who had been staying at the home. About 25 firefighters from three volunteer departments battled the blaze in Ceylon, which is about 100 miles southwest of Minneapolis.
