Proposed Stadium at CSUN

Share

First, it was homeowners that did not want the Ventura Freeway going through their community. Then it was a group that did not want Olympic facilities at the Lake Balboa area. Another group opposed courts [in Chatsworth]. Now homeowners groups do not want a stadium at the North Campus [at Cal State Northridge]. The Valley belongs to all its citizens--not just to those individuals inconvenienced by changes.

The Ventura Freeway did upset people, yet it was constructed for the benefit of all of us. The Olympic Committee wanted to build facilities that everyone would use and enjoy after the Olympic Games. The courts would service jurors, judges, those on trial, etc. Now homeowner groups want to deprive the entire Valley of a stadium that would benefit all.

With a growing population in the Valley, there will be a greater need to accommodate and adjust to changes in our neighborhoods to serve the common good. I did not want Fallbrook Square built because of the traffic it would generate. Yet, it has served greater numbers at the expense of the few of us it has inconvenienced.

There are more examples I could cite. For tomorrow’s populations, we must consider the public interest above personal inconveniences.
