Fiesta Commemorates End of Mexican-American War
An authentic fiesta commemorating the end of the Mexican-American War takes place Sunday at the Campo de Cahuenga building.
The free event features a reenactment in period dress of the signing of the Campo de Cahuenga Treaty of 1847 that ended hostilities with Mexico, said Jim Gulbranson, curator of the Campo de Cahuenga Historical Memorial Assn.
The fiesta runs from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and will include war-era dance performances, Gulbranson said.
Items from the war--including uniforms, documents, letters, paintings and guns--will be on display at the building at 3919 Lankershim Blvd., across from the Universal Studios main entrance, he said.
Refreshments will be served and free parking is available at the Universal parking structure off Lankershim Boulevard. For more information, call Gulbranson at (818) 767-5008 or association President Guy Weddington McCreary at (818) 762-3998.
