It’s Starting to Get a Bit Confusing

Share

It is anybody’s guess as to which USC players will be on the floor to start today’s game against Arizona.

After playing nine nonconference games with a somewhat consistent lineup, Coach Henry Bibby gave guard Adam Spanich his first start of the season and went with Greg Lakey at forward against Arizona State on Saturday. Neither player scored.

Sophomore Shannon Swillis, who had all but disappeared, played significant minutes when USC fell behind in the first half. “Shannon is a veteran basketball player,” Bibby said. “I needed that stabilizing influence.”

Forward Sam Clancy, a starter in four games, did notplay. The prized Ohio recruit has seen limited action of late. “We have a lot of guys at that position,” Bibby said. “Sam’s just a freshman. He’s still learning.”

The Trojans scheduled today’s game at the unusual time of 1 p.m. to avoid conflict with the Fiesta Bowl tonight.
