Delta Air Lines said it will expand service to Europe this summer, including Atlanta’s first nonstop service to Athens; Barcelona, Spain; and Istanbul, Turkey. Atlanta-based Delta also will introduce service this summer from New York’s Kennedy Airport to Ireland, with nonstop flights to Dublin and Shannon. Although the expansion comes at a time of global uncertainty about economic fallout from the Asian crisis, Reid said Delta’s new routes are aimed at markets with strong economies and growth potential. The new schedule will give Delta service to 17 transatlantic markets from Atlanta and 20 from Kennedy Airport. Delta shares rose $2.56 to close at $54.50 on the New York Stock Exchange.
