Facing Up to the New Millennium

Share

It’s official. Cosmetic surgery is now art. First, there was Orlan, the Parisian performance artist who had her numerous surgeries committed to celluloid. Now we have Elizabeth, an English model who’s subjected herself to the knife more than 20 times in the last 11 years in an effort to align her outer and inner beauty.

Offering herself to the fashion community as the Millennium Face, Elizabeth believes she has achieved timeless beauty through cosmetic alteration and that models of the future will choose a similar course. Today’s Super Six, she feels, are mere flavors of the day and represent only money.

“They are like robots,” she says.

Patterning herself after Nefertiti, Elizabeth’s new face--”youthful and fresh, dominated by big and slightly slanted eyes”--came to her in a dream, she says.
