Hebert’s in No Rush for Olympic Return

Share

The Nagano Games soured Duck goalie Guy Hebert so much on the Olympics he said he would like to see the United States represented by collegians rather than NHL players in 2002 at Salt Lake City.

“It was nice once, but I wouldn’t want to do it again,” said Hebert, who sat in the stands as Team USA’s third-string goalie at the Games last February.

Hebert also wondered how much exposure hockey would get from NBC, which owns the rights to the Salt Lake Games. In his opinion, CBS botched the hockey coverage last year by showing games well past midnight.

“Even the truest hockey fans didn’t watch the games because they were on so late,” Hebert said. “They probably should have waited until Salt Lake [to include NHL players in the Olympics]. There’s still a lot of stuff that needs to be worked out.”

The Ducks’ list of injured players grew Sunday when Jim McKenzie was sidelined by a gash, requiring six stitches, near his right eye after a first-period collision with Oiler tough guy Georges Laraque. McKenzie’s status for Wednesday’s game against the Calgary Flames was not yet known.
