Fight Headphone Hair

Finally, headphones that won’t interfere with your hairstyle!

The behind-the-neck headphone may just be the wave of the future. With a nonslip design, they stay comfortably on the ears during active sports like jogging, aerobics and blading.

The style was first developed by Sony last year and put on the market in March. “We [found that] people liked to take over-the-head headphones and wear them behind the neck,” explained Phil Petescia, director of accessories marketing for Sony Electronics.

Petescia believes the behind-the-neck design will eventually displace over-the-head headphones. “They are so much more comfortable and practical,” he said. The design has spawned many imitators, including Aiwa, which introduced its version at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week. Sony is developing a foldable model for release this spring.
