The City Council canceled plans Monday to build a 1,200-square-foot addition to the Westminster Senior Center because it would be more expensive than originally thought. The architect working on the project found it would need additional foundation work, increasing the cost to $180,000, from $150,000.

In response, the Asian-American Senior Citizens Assn., which requested the addition, asked to use community development block grant funds to purchase and rehabilitate an existing building at 8051 Westminster Blvd. The council directed its staff to look at other options.
