At Least 17 Die as City Is Bombed

Allies of Congolese President Laurent Kabila’s government have bombed Kisangani, the country’s third-largest city, killing 17 people, including five children, rebel leader Ernest Wamba dia Wamba said. A military source in Congo’s capital, Kinshasa, confirmed the bombing and said such attacks will continue in advance of an offensive against rebels backed by Rwanda and Uganda who took up arms in August against Kabila. They accuse him of misrule and inciting ethnic hatred.
