Lampshades in Bloom

Choose from roses, gardenias, begonias, camellias, dahlias or daisies with Sumi Designs’ inventive floral lamps.

Two sizes of lampshades--large / bell ($299) or small / cone ($199)--are decorated with silk flowers, layered petal upon petal, in a multitude of colors: white, red, yellow, blush rose, violet or midnight blue. The swirled lamp stand ($90) is sprayed silver or gold.

“I wanted to design something functional but completely fun,” says L.A. artist Sumi Lee, whose art background helped her concoct the whimsical shades. “When light shines through the colors, it makes them seem like Tiffany lamps.”

Lee’s first sale was to a San Francisco store, and she sold even more en route, holding lampshades on her lap in the airplane. “It’s sort of Pop Art meets the garden, which is a perfect meld for the times we’re in,” Lee says. “I think people get the concept quickly.”
