If Claudia Mino had her way, the word “tightwad” would have a positive connotation. “The general public may say you’re cheap or a tightwad, but those people who are being conservative are smart consumers,” said Mino, who teaches a seminar called the “Art of Cheapskate Living.”

During the free two-hour session, put on by Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Orange County, Mino gives simple tips on cutting costs. She also gathers stories from the audience. The next seminar will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Brea Community Center, 695 Madison Way. Information: (714) 990-7150.
