Kevin B. Stafford, a CPR instructor with Life Line Training Center in Anaheim, walked into the Placentia Police Department and handed Corinne Loomis, the investigator assigned the petty theft case, a money order to give to Boy Scout Troop No. 723, police said. The troop paid Stafford in July to teach them how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but scout officials say Stafford never showed up to teach the classes. Scout Master Murray Rothman said the troop rescheduled the CPR sessions for September and Stafford again was a no-show, he said. On Jan. 7, the troop filed a police report.

Loomis said other police agencies may be investigating Stafford for similar offenses. But, she said, the Placentia incident had a good ending: “The Boy Scouts got their money back.”

Stafford said there was miscommunication between his agency and the Boy Scouts. He said that at the time, he was overwhelmed by requests to teach CPR and that he didn’t mean to miss the sessions.
