17 Killed, 14 Hurt as Truck Hits Mine

Seventeen people, mainly women and children, were killed and 14 were seriously injured when a truck hit a mine in the central Angolan province of Huambo, scene of fierce fighting between government forces and rebels, a news agency said. The central highland region of the oil- and diamond-rich country has been the focus of heavy clashes between government troops and rebels after a four-year peace treaty collapsed just before Christmas.
