Students Honored at Irish Dance Competition

* A group of students from LaReina High School was among the top finalists at the United States Western Regional Championship, an Irish dancing competition.

Robin Jordan won first place in the under-17 category; RaChelle Burke placed seventh in the under-17 category.

Stephanie Serwe won first place in the under-14 category; Katie Roland placed ninth in the under-14 category; Riona O’Hanlon, 12th place, under-14 category.

The tournament was held Nov. 21-22 in Glendale.

CLU Receives $149,000 Educational Grant

* Cal Lutheran University received a $149,000 grant from the Charles E. Culpeper Foundation to implement a faculty development program titled “Teaching, Technology and Teamwork.” The two-year program aims to enhance the teaching and learning environment at CLU “by using a team approach with input from students, faculty and technology specialists.”

The Stamford, Conn.-based foundation, established in 1940, provides grants to assist organizations throughout the United States in the fields of health, education, arts and culture and the administration of justice.

Nita Whaley Wins Ojai Library Post

* Nita Whaley has been elected to a second term as president of the Ojai Valley Library Foundation. Organized in 1995, the nonprofit foundation administers an array of public and private partnerships to initiate and operate the SchoolLinks Homework Centers at the three public libraries in the Ojai Valley.
