Gamble House’s docent council is accepting applications for its annual docent training classes, beginning next month on Saturday mornings. * Women Helping Children, a community service of the National Council of Jewish Women / L.A., a nonsectarian organization, needs volunteers for literacy and enrichment programs for homeless, high-risk children, teens and teen mothers. * The Common Ground Garden Program of University of California Cooperative Extension in Los Angeles County is looking for volunteer gardeners to work with residents in low-income housing developments and community gardens, give gardening workshops, help elementary schoolteachers incorporate gardening activities into curriculum, answer gardening questions on the phone, work on the newsletter or help in the office. Volunteers will be certified as master gardeners after completing a 17-week, 96-hour training program, passing an examination and volunteering at least 75 hours by May 31, 2000.
