Microsoft Corp. said it’s delaying the release of the last test version of its Windows 2000 operating system by as much as a month. It will make it available by the end of April at the latest. Ed Muth, group product manager for Windows NT, said the delay from the previous release date in March was to allow time for ensuring quality in the product. Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft still plans to ship the final version of Windows 2000 sometime after Labor Day, he said. Windows 2000 is Microsoft’s most ambitious push to date into the corporate network market, where it’s designed to compete head-on against the Unix system that runs many large companies’ networks.
