From Times Wire Reports

Hundreds of young men lined up outside government offices to register for compulsory military service and possible combat duty in Angola’s renewed civil war. Fighting between the government and rebels resumed last month in the central highlands, shattering a 1994 peace accord. The government has launched a widespread media campaign to warn against attempts to dodge the draft. Men 20 to 22 years old have one week to register. The army has about 100,000 troops, though only about 30,000 of them are believed to be well trained. The rebels have an estimated 30,000 soldiers.
