A’s Put Mathews on Disabled List
The Oakland Athletics put pitcher T.J. Mathews on the 15-day disabled list because of right shoulder inflammation.
To take Mathews’ spot on the roster, the A’s recalled outfielder Jason McDonald from Vancouver of the Pacific Coast League.
Mathews is 1-3 with a 6.50 earned-run average in his last 18 outings. It comes after he began the season with a 5-0 mark and a 1.08 ERA his first 14 appearances.
McDonald was on Oakland’s opening-day roster but was optioned to Vancouver on May 22 with a .210 batting average. He hit .326 in 32 games there.

The New York Yankees claimed infielder Jeff Manto off waivers and added him to their 40-man roster. Manto, 34, appeared in 12 games for the Indians this season and was five for 25 with one homer and two runs batted in. In 48 games at triple-A Buffalo, he batted .322 with 16 homers and 34 RBIs. . . . The Baltimore Orioles signed right-hander Jim Corsi to a minor-league contract in the latest attempt to bolster their struggling bullpen. Corsi, designated for assignment by the Red Sox on June 15, will report to triple-A Rochester on Monday. Corsi was 1-2 with a 5.25 ERA in 23 games with the Red Sox this season. The Orioles also put right-hander Ricky Bones on the 15-day disabled list with fatigue in his right arm.
