Singles Mingle Over a Common Interest: ‘Sex’

Share

Hollywood’s mating habits took center stage late last week when more than 300 singles descended on the Hollywood Athletic Club for cocktails and a screening of HBO’s “Sex and the City.”

The hit TV series stars Sarah Jessica Parker as the fabulous Carrie Bradshaw, a New York-based writer who chronicles the lives of herself and her single friends.

With games, prizes and a new episode of “Sex” to watch, guests said the party was a step above typically lame singles meet-and-greets.

“It’s a good reason to go out on a Thursday night,” Kitty Miller said between sips of a cosmopolitan.

One ingenious move by party planners was doing away with name tags, a staple at most singles events. Instead, each person was given a number that corresponded to a mailbox. Guests were encouraged to write notes to people they wanted to get to know better.

“[These parties] are a great way to get to know all kinds of people of different races and backgrounds,” Danny Morales said from the sidelines.

Last week’s “Sex and the City” party was the second of three HBO is throwing this summer in Los Angeles. The final event will be 9 to 11 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Athletic Club. Similar singles parties are being held concurrently in San Francisco and other major cities.
