Littleton Parents

Re “Debate Rises on Parents’ Influence Over Children,” July 4:

Conspicuous by its absence was any relevant information about the role of the parents of the teen gunmen in the terrible massacre in Littleton, Colo., last April. Since the authorities have apparently been unable to enlist the cooperation of these parents, how can we use Littleton as an example of “normal-range” parenting engendering monstrous behavior in children? All we really know is that these parents are so intent on protecting themselves, in the wake of their sons’ murdering innocent children, that they are totally unwilling to cooperate in the investigation. This is hardly grounds for launching a movement to dismiss the role of parents.
