Tropical Storm Gaining Strength

Tropical storm Beatriz swirled far off Mexico’s Pacific coast and was expected to grow to hurricane strength. The center of the storm Saturday morning was about 575 miles south of the tip of Baja California and was moving out to sea at 12 mph, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. Forecasters expected the storm to strengthen through Monday and reach minimal hurricane status--sustained winds of 74 mph--then lose force.
