SEAL BEACH
The City Council on Monday awarded a contract to the law firm of Ferguson, Praet & Sherman for bill collection services related to fines charged for driving under the influence. The firm will keep one-third of the net recovery; it is typically successful in 65% to 70% of the cases, compared to the city’s 10% to 15% success rate, City Manager Keith Till said.
DUI cases cost the city money for potential accident reports, handling of traffic and arrests. By awarding the contract, officials anticipate saving $30,000 a year.
