Mariners Church of Irvine will hold its eighth annual Lighthouse Talent Show and Auction fund-raiser Sunday.
The church hopes to raise nearly $100,000 at the benefit, which will help its expanding ministry to the poor in Orange County. If at least $50,000 is raised, Senior Pastor Kenton Beshore will dress up as Elvis Presley and sing “You Ain’t Nothin’ But a Hound Dog” to Mariners’ summer mascot, a Saint Bernard puppy named Big Dawg.
The events begin at 5 p.m. with a silent auction and casual dinner in front of the church auditorium. The talent show will be held in the auditorium from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost for the event is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children.
Lighthouse Ministries was established in 1987 by the church to help the poor in Orange County. The ministry focuses its efforts on 16 local organizations.
Mariners Church is a nondenominational church at 5001 Newport Coast Drive, at Bonita Canyon Drive, behind UC Irvine.
