Kristen Marquis representing Crown Valley Divers, qualified for today’s final of the women’s three-meter diving competition of the U.S. Senior Zone Diving Championships in Tempe, Ariz. Marquis finished with a score of 430.75 to lead the way in the preliminaries.

SWIMMING

Despite three-foot chop and water temperatures between 60-63 degrees, Santa Margarita’s Scott Zornig and his relay team took first place in the men’s 40-and-over division of the Trans Tahoe Relay Swim Saturday at Lake Tahoe.

Representing the Irvine Novaquatics Masters program, Zornig, Craig Taylor, Dan Sullivan, Rick Reeder, Burt Bergen and Jim Fitzpatrick finished the race in four hours and 29 minutes. Due to the conditions, 20 of the 72 teams didn’t finish and times were approximately 30 minutes off the usual pace.

Also representing the Novaquatics, Treg Weythman, Tracy Hunter, Michael Suttle, Bob Stipp, Jeannette Browning and Valerie Hagoplan finished second in the 40-and-over mixed relay in four hours and 57 minutes and in the 30-and-over mixed race Erin Reed, Chris Mayers, Brendan Halffman, Matt Truxaw, Rosanne Platt and Dolly Ginter finished fifth.

TENNIS

Dave and Dan Bohannon of Garden Grove were defeated in the semifinals of the men’s 50 doubles at the USTA National Hardcourt Championships Saturday, losing 7-6, 6-4, to Tim Leonard and Jerry Vanlinge of South Pasadena at the Lindborg Raquet Club in Huntington Beach.

Defending champion Leland Housman of San Diego advanced to today’s final in men’s 55, where he will face top-seeded Dick Johnson of Ballwin, Mo. at 9 a.m.
