1 Killed, 1 Injured in Offramp Crash
A woman was killed and a man remains in critical condition after their pickup overturned exiting the Ventura Freeway at Seaward Avenue on Saturday evening, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Philip Andrew Lopez, 33, of Ventura was northbound on the Seaward Avenue offramp about 7:40 p.m. when his pickup jumped a divider, swerved across all lanes of Seaward and struck a concrete planter near Alessandro Drive. The truck then turned over into the parking lot of a gas station.
Passenger Joanne Baker, 40, of Ventura died at the scene. Lopez was taken to Ventura County Medical Center with major leg injuries. He remains in critical but stable condition. Lopez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Both Lopez and Baker were wearing seat belts.
