PLACENTIA

Low-income families may get a chance to give their homes a face-lift, from exterior painting to minor cosmetic repairs, thanks to a $404,000 grant to be proposed by city officials at tonight’s council meeting. The Placentia Beautification Program is a citywide effort to improve the appearance of its neighborhoods.

But many low-income families that qualify don’t participate because they are not able to pay back loans or they can’t find anyone to do the work, said Robert D’Amato, the city’s administrator. With the beautification grant, the city would absorb all labor and material costs.

To qualify, the salary for a one-person household should be no more than $23,900. The maximum salary for a larger household varies. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave.
