WASHINGTON —
Veteran political hand and former foreign policy official Stuart E. Eizenstat was sworn in as deputy Treasury secretary in a private ceremony Monday, a department spokeswoman said.
Eizenstat, 56, was sworn in by Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, the man he replaced as deputy secretary, in the department’s ornate Diplomatic Room.
The swearing-in completed the transition to a new team at Treasury, which was set in motion when Robert E. Rubin resigned from the top job.
