Bush Campaign

Re “Texas Corporate Interests Financed Bulk of Bush Races,” July 14: I read with interest your article regarding Gov. George W. Bush. No matter how one-sided the article, I would much prefer Bush receiving money from Texas corporate interests rather than the Chinese government. If I am not mistaken, this is the way American politics are supposed to be played.

People shouldn’t be too hard on Bush for his failure to show where he stands on issues important to the American people. After all, the money is still rolling in and George has yet to determine who his biggest campaign donors are.

Another puffed-up article about Bush that attempts to insinuate wrongdoing where there is none. Much to-do about nothing, again.

Toward the end of your July 10 article on the Texas patients’ rights law, you tell us that Gov. Bush vetoed it the first time it was passed, then let it become law without his signature the second time. I cannot see any compassion for the ill or injured in that behavior. Let his record speak louder than his sound bites.

I must say that I hold thoughts very similar to those expressed by Alexander Cockburn (Column Left, July 15). There indeed seems little difference between Bush and Al Gore, or Republican and Democrat for that matter.

It is going to take a coalition of left and right to overcome this developing one-party system and divert our eventual fall to fascism. That coalition already exists. It is the Libertarian Party, which holds dear the economic freedoms championed by conservatives yet abandoned by Republicans and the civil freedoms championed by liberals yet abandoned by Democrats.
