Clinton Signs Bill Limiting Y2K Suits
President Clinton signed into law a bill meant to limit lawsuits related to possible Year 2000 computer problems and save U.S. businesses billions of dollars. “I hope that we find that the Y2K Act succeeds in helping to screen out frivolous claims without blocking or unduly burdening legitimate suits,” Clinton said. Congress overwhelmingly passed the bill, a legislative priority of the business community. Under the law, a business will have 90 days after its officers learn of a computer-related Y2K problem to repair the glitch before lawsuits can be filed.
